Trident Juncture | Essay competition for young professionals


Trident Juncture is the greatest joint excercise of NATO forces that will take place in October 2015. For this occasion the Atlantic Treaty Association in collaboration with Consejo Atlántico Juvenil Español – COAJE, is organising an essay competition directed at young professionals of NATO members countries whose winners will take part to a NATO conference “NATO and the New Arc of Crisis.


The top 5 international finalists of the essay competition will win a fully covered trip to conference “NATO and the New Arc of Crisis” held by NATO on the 28th and 29th of October in Madrid, Spain. While the winner will be included in the official program and will present his/her paper on the 29th.

To enter the competition, participants will have to write a policy recommendation report, between 500-­1500 words on the following category:

‘How to SYNCHRONISE Eastern and Southern perceptions of security threats to the Alliance’

Please note that the target audience is young professionals with a background in international, defence or security politics, military personnel, researchers and professionals from think tanks, centers for study, journalists and media representatives.

Finalists in the essay competition must engage in an online debate against each other to defend their policy recommendations.

*The top 5 international finalists from Round 2 will be selected on the basis of how practical and realistic their policy recommendations are, having a strategy for implementation and how well it was defended during the online debate.

**The winner of the debate will be included in the official program to present their policy recommendation report in front of the conference audience on Oct 29th in Madrid.

***Spanish competition finalists will have to cover their own expenses


Participants must:
‐ Be a young professional between 25­-35 years old
‐ Be a citizen of a NATO member country
‐ Submit a policy recommendation report between 500­-1500 words
‐ Submit the report in English
– Submit a copy of their C.V.
– Engage in an online debate to defend their policy recommendations
